SAPS hosts multidisciplinary school campaign at General Smuts

The event boasted various demonstrations, static exhibitions, and edutainment by all stakeholders involved. Another favorite at the event was a drill performance by the SAPS Gauteng drill squad and band.

VEREENIGING. – Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) today held the Integrated Multidisciplinary School campaign at General Smuts High School in Vereeniging.

The campaign seeks to increase learners’ level of awareness on topics such as substance abuse, gender-based violence, sexual offenses, and human trafficking toward moral regeneration within our communities.

The SAPS members from various units were joined by representatives from the Departments of Correctional Services, Gauteng Community Safety and Education, other law enforcement agencies Emergency Management Services, Local Community Policing Forum, Sekuriteit Sonder Grense, and various other stakeholders
Present at the Event were the Sedibeng District Acting Commander Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu, Vereeniging SAPS station Commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba, Principal Morena Mohapi as well as various representatives from different organizations.

Explaining the objective of the event, Brigadier Ndaba said the aim was to highlight problems faced by scholars such as violence in schools, substance abuse, and bullying. “The event aims to talk negatively about negative things happening in school,” she said.

Junior District Commissioner Noluthando Lushaba, from Riverside High School, urged fellow learners to change and stop chasing clout.

“If I asked anyone to say what they know about General Smuts they would mention Drugs and gangsterism. There is a limited chance for us to succeed and education is the only way. The things you are doing now are not going to be cool in the next five years.”

Lushaba urged students to focus on their education and stay away from drugs and gangsterism as this would harm their futures.

Principal Mohapi said he was delighted about the campaign. “Things are slowly taking a turn for the better at our school and we are grateful for the help that we have been receiving from various stakeholders, the community, parents, and our School Governing Body (SGB),” he said.

The event boasted various demonstrations, static exhibitions, and edutainment by all stakeholders involved. Another favorite at the event was a drill performance by the SAPS Gauteng drill squad and band. Learners had the opportunity to interact with the SAPS members and meet the SAPS K9 dogs and horses.
