Golden Highway closed due to sinkhole

Motorists are urged to consider alternative routes.

GAUTENG. – The Golden Highway is closed between the R554 Lenasia and Lehae four way crossing  and Cavendish Road after residents went on a protest demanding for government to fix a sinkhole.

It is reported that the road was barricaded by the Gauteng Traffic Police closed off the road pending a meeting between the ward councilor, residents and other stakeholders.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s spokesperson, Xolani Fihla has since urged residents to use alternative routes.

“Motorists are urged to avoid that stretch of the roadway and to use the n12, Klipsruit Valley Road, and R554 through Lenasia as alternative routes,” he said.

Vaal residents making use of that road are also urged to make use of alternative routes to get to their various destinations.
