Met Lounge Soccer Tournament comes to an end

"The introduction of the veteran Winsor Lesalaisa in the second half saw Conzela Masters taking the lead."

SEBOKENG.- The  Met Lounge Soccer Tournament came to an end with the finals taking place at Qhoweng Primary School’s grounds on Saturday.

This tournament was part of a charity campaign with the masters’ soccer teams donating sanitary towels. The sanitary towels will be forwarded (further donated) to the local schools for the girl children who are in need of them. This tournament was played for two weeks with the finals over the weekend. It was a great initiative that saw masters’ soccer teams and junior soccer teams share the stage in the final on Saturday afternoon.

The local soccer fans came to watch these games before they went to watch the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns live on television in the evening. To make it interesting, Kaizer Chiefs Supporters were playing against each other as part of the curtain raisers for the Masters’ finals between Conzela Masters and Shambala Masters.

Conzela Masters were crowned the Met Lounge Tournament champions after they beat Shambala Masters 2-0. Former SuperSport United hardman Peter “Fire” Khoabane scored both goals. Despite being overweight Khoabane showed his experience when he found the net twice beating Shambala Master’s goalkeeper.

The introduction of the veteran Winsor Lesalaisa in the second half saw Conzela Masters taking the lead after exchanging passes in the eighteen box with Khoabane finishing off brilliantly.

Former Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper, Avril “Chawe” Phali watched from the sideline as his former professional counterparts showed the youngster how to do it. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Met Lounge owner, Mpho Dlamini said the tournament was for charity purposes.

She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this initiative will go a long way to help those who are in need in the community. Dlamini further told Sedibeng Ster Sport, that they will donate the sanitary towels to the surrounding schools in their community of Zone 12 and Zone 13.

“We intend to do the same tournament next year in January known as a ‘Back to School’ where we will donate school uniforms, shoes, and bags to those learners who come from disadvantaged families in our community,” she concluded.

Met Lounge Netball Team was crowned the champions in the netball category.
