VANDERBIJLPARK – Following a series of articles by Ster South highlighting the dilapidated state of Johan Heyns Community Health Center, Democratic Alliance’s Gauteng Premier Candidate Solly Msimanga conducted a site inspection at the facility.
Despite encountering a lack of information and answers from the management regarding the state of the building and healthcare services, Msimanga and his team proceeded with their scrutiny.
After the tour, Msimanga engaged with Ster on the conditions found at the facility and expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of response.
Msimanga stated that they encountered distressing conditions during their inspection, including maggots inside drains, overgrown grass, and allegedly broken-down ambulances.
“We were supposed to meet with the management to understand what is happening here. What we witnessed is very shocking. A building that should have been maintained has been allowed to decay and deteriorate,” Msimanga remarked.
He further mentioned that they would continue to seek answers from higher authorities after not receiving satisfactory responses from Johan Heyns’s management.
“The government needs to be held accountable for what’s happening here. Someone must answer for the lack of maintenance of this building. We are going to request a full report from the MEC and demand to know who is responsible for its maintenance. We want to understand the future plans for this hospital. Will it be demolished or left to decay and be abandoned?” he stated.
Expressing visible displeasure, Msimanga emphasised that the lack of information was disrespectful to the public.
“We had a scheduled appointment, but upon arrival, we were informed that no one was available to address our concerns. This is a blatant denial of access to information. The public deserves to know where their tax money is being allocated. Why hasn’t the MEC visited to provide solutions and direction regarding this crisis? This is a clear disrespect to the people of Sedibeng,” he concluded.
