SEBOKENG – Lisebo Khoase turned 100 years old on February 2, and her family chose to celebrate her this past weekend.
Surrounded by love, laughter, and cherished memories, those who had been touched by the presence of the gogo came together over the weekend to honour a century of a life well-lived.
Gathered at Zone 11, Sebokeng, the Khoase residence buzzed with excitement as dozens of family members, relatives, friends, and neighbours gathered to pay tribute to Gogo Lisebo’s remarkable journey.
On Saturday, February 10, the assembled crowd serenaded and cheered for Gogo Lisebo as she sat at the centre of attention, flanked by her daughter, Manko Khoase, and her sister, Lettie Mbongo.
The stretch tent, adorned with flamboyant decorations, vibrated with joyous church melodies and heartfelt expressions of gratitude for a life that has touched so many.
Speaking to Ster South, Lisebo’s firstborn son, Patrick Khoase (72), shared fond memories of his mother’s resilience, love, and strong spirit.
“Reaching such a remarkable age is nothing but a blessing, and we are overjoyed that she has made it this far. In this day and age, many people don’t reach that age, especially still physically fit and able to walk properly,” he said.
Patrick continued: “Our father passed away many years ago, and we feel abundantly blessed to still have her guiding us. My mother has always been a straight talker and a very disciplined individual. If she weren’t around, I don’t think many of us would still be here.”
Lisebo, a woman of few words, said she was happy to see her relatives and family celebrating her. “I didn’t expect the surprise, but I am over the moon to be celebrated. It takes resilience, discipline, and being hands-on to get this far. Raising older kids is not easy; one still needs to show them direction when they are led astray,” she said.
