Local boy saves Sekhukhune United from defeat

“We were all over our opponents but with all the ball possession we had we couldn’t take our chances."

VANDERBIJLPARK.-  Local young goalkeeper, Bongani Nkone (20) saved Sekhukhune United from what could have been a defeat.

This young star from Boipatong made par excellence saves when United played to a goalless draw against TS Galaxy in the DSTV Diski Challenge match at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.

Nkone produced a Man of The Match performance when he saved a penalty in the first half to force the game to go to the interval with 0-0. Both goalkeepers were outstanding on the day also, the TS Galaxy goalkeeper made brilliant saves to deny United scoring opportunities.

It was an exciting game of football that was watched by a handful of local soccer fans on the stand who came to watch their respective teams. It was a great advert of football with both teams keeping ball possession well and attacking each other from the first whistle.

It was attack after attack with brilliant goalkeeping from both goalkeepers that forced the game to end in a goalless draw. However, Nkone was outstanding in saving clear-cut chances in one-on-one situations. Speaking after the game, TS Galaxy Coach Ashley Makahanya told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they were a better team on the day but failed to convert their chances into goals.

“We were all over our opponents but with all the ball possession we had we couldn’t take our chances. To make it worse we missed a penalty that could have given us a win,” said Makhanya.
