VANDERBIJLPARK.- It was a feast of football with Sedibeng hosting two DSTV Diski Challenge matches at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.
First, it was a game between Sekhukhune United against Kwa-Zulu Natal-based side Golden Arrows. This game started at 10:00 followed by another DSTV Diski Challenge between Swallows and another Kwa-Zulu Natal side Royal AM.
The games between United and Arrows lived up to expectations with both teams displaying mouth-watering football, much delighted to the local soccer fans. It was a great football advert to watch by the local soccer fans.
The two teams’ supporters were in a happy mood. As expected, the home team Sekhukhune United started the game more purposefully circulating ball possession nicely all over the field. United Head Coach, Paulus Masehe was back on the bench after he was called to the senior team. United were the first to score with Arrows having to chase the game for the better part of the game in search of an equaliser.
United were reduced to ten men after their prolific striker, Keletso Sifama, was sent off for retaliating. This gave Arrows a sense of purpose as they threw more men forward in search of an equaliser. At this stage the score was 1-0 in favour of United, however, Arrows were smart enough to take advantage of United’s ten men as they pushed more men forward and they found an equaliser to make the score 1-1 with less than 8 minutes to the final whistle, much relieved to their bench, especially the Arrows Head Coach, Japhet Zwane.
But again, Sekhukhune United should kick themselves for these results, as they had a golden opportunity to walk away with three points when their striker saw his “well connected” header miss the target with Arrows goalkeeper well beaten.
It was celebrations all over, on the bench, on the field, and in the stands, as the visitors Arrows were more than the happiest between the two teams to go back home with a point.
