‘Taxi rolled twice before blocking the road’ – Eyewitness account

An accident between a Nissan bakkie and a minibus left Vaal's longest street congested on Sunday.

SEBOKENG. – South Africans are living on the internet, no doubt.

And this was evident at the weekend as they applied a popular line from TikTok and Facebook when a vehicle is randomly parked in the wrong place following a freak accident.

On Sunday, March 24, an accident between a minibus and a Nissan bakkie occurred at the intersection of Moshoeshoe Road, Masoweng.

According to eyewitnesses, the collision occurred when the Nissan double cab, traveling from Thabong and approaching the traffic lights, collided with the taxi, sending it into a dangerous roll.

In the aftermath of the collision, the street looked like a scene from a movie set, with a crowd of motorists, pedestrians, and bystanders gathering to witness the unfolding drama.

Amidst the chaos, two passengers and the driver managed to escape the capsized taxi through the windows, avoiding serious injury.

Instead of the usual feeling pity and acting somber, dozens of motorists passed the incident shouting “You can park the car there!” while they held their cellphones, filming what happened.

Speaking to Ster Team, eyewitnesses describe a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster as the taxi rolled over before coming to a halt, blocking the busy thoroughfare for hours.

“It happened so quickly. One moment, everything seemed normal, and the next, there was chaos everywhere. The sound of screeching tires, shattering glass, and panicked voices filled the air,” said the hawker.

“The taxi was traveling from Zone 20 on Houtkop Road, jumping Moshoeshoe Road when the bakkie plunged into the taxi. My observation is that the robot was green for the bakkie, not the taxi,” he said.

Sedibeng Ster sent several inquiries on the matter to the authorities, however, at the time of publishing the story no official comment had been provided.
