SEBOKENG. – Jubilant cheers, drums, whistles, and vuvuzelas echoed through UK sports grounds as Unstoppable FC defeated G-Star FC on the much-anticipated 2024 Kingdom Easter soccer tournament finals on Monday, April 01.
This is after a showdown finale between the two senior teams, leaving diehard supporters and spectators on the edge of their camp masters, bricks and crates.
Despite the intense competition, it was Unstoppable FC who ultimately seized victory, securing a 1-1 draw against G-Star and emerging victorious with a 5-4 win on penalties.
Wrestling in the dusty ground, skips, shibobos among other freestyles were the order of the day.
During the first half of the game, both teams scored a goal, with G-Star’s Right winger Teboho Aguero Ngwenya throwing a magnificent fireball inside Unstoppables’ net.
Unstoppables’ Strike Sabata Joseph Ngubeni equalised with a one-one goal leading the games to penalties.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, reflecting on their win, Unstoppable FC Coach, Thulani Khumalo said “I feel so extremely happy with my players, management and our supporters. This is our second tournament in three months and it’s a big achievement as an unqualified coach.”
Khumalo said he studied his opponents and learnt their game plan.
“To win the games, I watched our opponents in their previous games so I can know their weak points then utilise them. It was nothing out of the ordinary with our rivals as well. I always motivate the boys [players] to remain calm and do what are they good with,” said the jubilant coach.
The defeated coach, Mitjo Lenka said “The outcome of a tournament can evoke a range of emotions. Whether it’s the thrill of victory or the disappointment of falling short, each result contributes to a team’s journey and effort.”
“We lost a lot of players due to injuries and some commitment but the squad I had soldiered on and fought till the final game of the tournament whereby we lost on penalties. Would like to give credit to my players and the supporters of G Star family and the management at large, We remain nkabi nation,” he said.
