Young athletes participate in championships

Although they didn’t win the race, they were happy with their performance on the day.

SASOLBURG. – Inathi Buqwana and Manana Mtolo were some of the young athletes who travelled as far as Zamdela to participate at the Athletics Vaal Triangle (AVT) Cross Country Championship.


This competition took place at Isak Steyl Stadium last, Saturday August 3.

These youngsters from Top Runner Athletics Club were competing in the 2km distance. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Baqwana and Mtolo said their dreams is to represent South Africa in international competitions. The two also told Sedibeng Ster Sport that their aspiring dreams are to compete at the Olympics, which is one of the biggest events in the world. These two young runners were confident that they will make their dreams a reality.

“We want to make a career out of athletics and become full-time professional runners. We are working hard at training to become better athletes. Thankfully our coaches are pushing us. They are committed to see us achieve our dreams and we want to thank them for that.”

Buqwana and Mtolo said although they didn’t win the race, they were happy with their performance on the day. They told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it was not about winning, but participating and seeing their progress as part of their development.
