MEYERTON – In a plight to curb incidents of bullying at schools, the Kliprivier police working with various stakeholders carried out an anti-bullying campaign at the Thomas Nhlapo Primary School. The event took place on October 29.
The event was supported by the Department of Social Development, Department of Education, Agape NGO and Midvaal Local Municipality.
Speakers of the day highlighted the importance of self-acceptance and self-love, urging pupils to remain unique and refrain from changing to please other people.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Tintswalo Ndhambi says, “The kids were taught about the importance of respect. Councillor Marry Myburgh shared her experience of being bullied with the pupils. She further urged pupils to speak up and realise that they can conquer bulling by seeking support either at school or by opening up to someone they trust at home.”
Ndhambi informed the children about the process of arresting younger children and further explained the functions of Juvenile Prisons in South Africa.
The campaign was joined in by Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira who encouraged learners to work hard and diligently so that they can do well in their exams.
The event ended with pupils showcasing their skills through drama and dance. Their performances addressed various issues they deal with at school.
