Putting shoes on feet and smiles on faces

Foundation donates school shoes to needy pupils.

SASOLBURG – Tsatsi Foundation stepped up to help vulnerable pupils at Tsatsi Primary School in Zamdela by donating 30 pairs of school shoes.

The foundation is run by advocate Liza and her husband, professor Letsebe Tsatsi.

They chose the school for personal reasons. Letsebe’s late father, Simon Tsatsi, was the school’s first principal, and his mother, Selina also taught at the school.

To honour the rich legacy, the Tsatsi family decided to lend a hand to pupils in need by donating shoes as a start.

During the handover, Liza observed an unexpected shortage of essentials.

There was not enough furniture in the school hall, forcing some children and teachers to stand.

“We felt the urge to help. There are many projects here that need funding. My husband, now a radiology professor, attended this school as a young boy. To give back here is a way to honour his late father’s legacy,” she said.

According to Liza, the 30 lucky recipients were chosen through a school committee that carefully assessed the needs of pupils based on family situations.

Liza added that the process was to ensure that the most deserving children receive support.

Principal Hilda Matshoso expressed her gratitude, stating: “I’m humbled and happy about the donation because we work with vulnerable learners due to poverty and unemployment of parents. The gesture has brought about much needed difference to me as the principal and the learners who received the shoes.”
