Vuka residents suffer sewage headache

"No human being can live under these conditions with the terrible smell."

SHARPEVILLE.- It never rains but pours for the Vuka Section residents with sewage all over their yards and the street.

One resident claimed that it has been almost two weeks since they reported this matter but nothing has been done to amend their situation.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Lehlohonolo Zwane said residents are frustrated by the situation. Zwane claimed that they reported the matter with a hope that the relevant authorities will come to their rescue, but till this day the sewage is still there. To make matters worse, Zwane told Sedibeng Ster that he and his sisters are diabetic patients and living under these circumstances make things worse for their health condition. He claimed that his neighbour, who is physically challenged, is also affected by these conditions with the sewage all over his yard.

“I tried several times to engaged the municipality with our problem and they came twice, but nothing has been done. Initially I was told that the main pipeline is overflowing. They came for the second time, but I was not at home, and was told by the neighbours that they were here. You can see for yourself how bad is our situation with sewage all over our yards. How long it will take the municipality to address the matter is not known, but residents feel frustrated.  I truly hope by approaching the newspaper the municipality will be forced to try and resolve the situation, because I have done everything with no luck,” Zwane told Sedibeng Ster.

Sedibeng Ster intends to follow up on this matter with the local authorities seeing that Vuka Section residents are not the only ones affected by this sewage problems. When you drive throughout Sedibeng and Emfuleni there are broken sewerages and running water all over the place.
