Soweto derby comes to Vaal

Saturday, March 8 is not going to be an exception as supporters are expected to pack the venue to capacity.

SEDIBENG.- Expect a full house when Orlando Pirates Reserve team hosts Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby in the DSTV Diski Challenge (DDC).

This much-anticipated Soweto derby between Pirates and Chiefs babies will take place at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark next Saturday, March 8. This encounter is round two of the DDC fixture after Chiefs beat Pirates 2-0 in the first round.


Pirates will be out to avenge their first-round defeat with Chiefs wanting to close the gap at the top of the log. However, Pirates will use the venue to their advantage as the hosting team. They use Isak Steyl Stadium as their DDC home games and the local soccer fans might rally behind them as they are technically they are the home team.


As things stand Stellenbosch is sitting at the summit of the log. This game promises to produce fireworks giving the two teams’ history.
These two teams are the most followed in South African football regardless of developments.

This will be the high-profile game to be played in the Vaal considering the kind of support these two teams enjoy whenever they play.
