MEYERTON – A man (66) found himself on the wrong side of the law when police pounced on his Riversdale home on March 28.
In a high-impact operation, men and women in blue, backed by multiple law enforcement units, swooped in on a property in Varing Street, executing a Search and Seizure Warrant (J51).
In a mission to crack down on illegal weapons, Meyerton police discovered a stash of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Police spokesperson for the Sedibeng Cluster, Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela, confirmed a male suspect was arrested.
Police seized pistols, magazines, a revolver, and more than 100 rounds of ammunition.
The suspect appeared in the Meyerton Magistrate’s Court on two counts of illegal firearm possession and two counts of illegal ammunition possession. He remains in custody.
Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho applauded the coordinated efforts of law enforcement and vowed to continue the crackdown on illegal firearms.
“This is a victory in our ongoing battle against gun-related crime. We urge the public to report any suspicious activity to help us keep our communities safe.”
