VANDERBIJLPARK – Emfuleni Local Municipality councillors concluded a two-day lekgotla and workshop on March 25 at The Venue on Vaal.
Administered by the council speaker Sibongile Soxuza, the lekgotla emphasised the municipality’s commitment to good governance and sustainable development.
Delegates took considerable time deliberating on and refining ELM regulatory and strategic frameworks, Standing Rules and Orders of Council, Integrated Development Planning (IDP), and Spatial Development Frameworks (SDF).
Chief among topical discussions was the Budget Public Participation processes wherein councillors accentuated the necessity to enhance community engagement and alignment of municipal service delivery priorities with the needs of Emfuleni residents.
The outcomes of the lekgotla are aimed at guiding the strategic planning and policymaking efforts of the municipality.
The ideas and suggestions will play a crucial role in developing future programmes designed to improve service delivery, encourage economic development, and uplift the living standards for all residents.
Soxuza stated that the municipality has a strong conviction to be open and responsible while ensuring that members of the public are considered and included in decision-making activities.
“My role is to create a platform conducive for our communities to have a say about day-to-day issues that affect them. This is a call to all residents to be involved in our work as councillors and raise any concerns through the Budget Public Participation platforms.”
