BOPHELONG – Popular Vaal social media sensation, Kananelo Thamae (27), is not only taking social media by storm but also gracing nominations for big social media awards.

The 27-year-old comedian, content creator, influencer, and radio presenter has been nominated for the South African Social Media Awards (SASMA’s) in the same category as the likes of Lasizwe, among many others.

SASMA’s are awards that cater to influencer personalities, brands, and agencies.

There are many distinctive awards available in social media and marketing, but none as dedicated to the great work of Social Media Influencers as the much-coveted South African Social Media Awards.

Speaking to Ster on his nomination, Thamae said, “This is a huge milestone and it carries a lot of meaning for you, both personally and professionally. It shows that the content I’ve been creating, my personality, and my influence are being noticed and valued by a wider audience.”

Thamae said being nominated with big content producers such as Lasizwe feels unreal. “I’m so humbled and grateful.

“This shows that the work, the laughs, the consistency, and just being myself are paying off. I never thought I’d see my name next to people I’ve always looked up to,” he said.

Thamae said he is expecting a win for his nomination and greatly expects to connect with other influencers, creators, and brands who can open doors for collaborations and partnerships.

“A win in these awards would mean more than just taking home a trophy. It would be a turning point in your social media journey. It will be proof that the sleepless nights, brainstorming, creating, and staying consistent were worth it,” he said.

Thamae was born in Soweto’s Zola Hospital. His life has been a rollercoaster ride through provinces.

From Pretoria, which played a major role in shaping his childhood, to North West, Free State, and finally back to Gauteng, the Vaal, his journey has been filled with stories that now inspire his viral skits.
