Speeding Mercedes kills woman (52) in Vanderbijlpark

Tragedy struck in Vanderbijlpark when a speeding Mercedes-Benz hit and killed a woman (52) at Vaal Mall.

VANDERBIJLPARK – A well-known woman died after she was hit by a speeding white Mercedes-Benz near Vaal Mall yesterday afternoon (September 13).

Eyewitnesses said the car was changing lanes at the traffic lights on Faraday Boulevard and Barrage Road when it struck Colleen Martha Coleman (52), who was known to stand there asking for donations. The car then swerved into oncoming traffic.

Long queuing traffic was the order of the afternoon as bystanders and motorists watched in disbelief.

Police and local emergency services barricaded the road, which had become a crime scene.

Colleen’s daughter, Angelique Jooste, said her mother was a selfless person who always tried to support the family.

“She was loving and cared about others, even when she had little herself,” Angelique said.

The family is finding it hard to cope, as Colleen was their only source of income.

“Without her, we don’t have any financial support from anyone at all,” Angelique added.

At the time of going to print, the police had not commented on the matter.
