DA demands justice for murdered Sharpeville girl (6)

DAWN in Sedibeng continues to demand justice for a six-year-old Sharpeville girl allegedly raped and murdered by her father, pledging ongoing court support for the family and calling for the maximum sentence if he is convicted.

The Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (DAWN) in the Sedibeng region continues its call for justice to be served in the case of a 6-year-old girl from Sharpeville who was allegedly raped and killed by her 33-year-old father.

The young girl’s body was found in her family home on October 8. She had been stabbed multiple times. Her father fled the scene but later handed himself over to the police. While initially investigated for murder, the court denied the suspect bail in October after evidence emerged that the child had also been raped.

The suspect briefly appeared in court in early January, however, the case was postponed to February 13 for further investigation.

Members of DAWN have been a constant presence outside the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court, holding demonstrations to support the grieving family and to send a strong message to all criminals that the DA will not stand idly by.

Speaking to Ster North, DA Councillor Thandi Mthimkhulu says, “DAWN unequivocally condemns the brutal crime that has taken the life of this child. While the case has been postponed, we call on the courts to impose the maximum sentence allowed by law, ensuring that the guilty party is held fully accountable.”

The organisation also created a petition, calling for a harsh sentence by the courts if the alleged perpetrator is found guilty.

Mthimkhulu emphasised that the DA will attend every court proceeding to ensure the family is not alone. She noted that such firm legal action is the only way to provide closure to the Sharpeville community.

“Enough is enough. Every woman and child has the right to feel safe and protected. Silence is not an option,” she added.
