EVATON.- A 29-year-old man from Palm Springs is set to appear in court on a murder charge after an alleged attempted robbery ended in a fatal stabbing.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, when the man, who is currently in police custody, reported the death at the local police station.
According to police spokesperson, Constable Thulisile Msibi, the man claimed he was sleeping in his outside room when he heard footsteps and water leaking from an outside geyser.
When he opened his door, he was confronted by an armed intruder (deceased).
The intruder was carrying both a firearm and a knife. They fought, and the intruder stabbed him on the right cheek.
The resident managed to call his sibling, who came to assist and together, they managed to overpower the intruder, and he was stabbed with his own knife. The resident then tied the man’s legs together and dragged him outside the yard.
“He left him at the scene after noticing he was weak. The man later died from his injuries,” said Msibi.
She added that the injuries sustained by the deceased include an open wound on the forehead, a stab wound on the legs, and three stab wounds on the right thigh.
At the scene, officers recovered belongings of the deceased, including an Okapi knife, a toy gun (black in colour), bolt cutters, a size 13 spanner, gloves, a panga, a black Woolworths shopping bag, a pair of pliers, and a grey bag.
“He was also wearing a police bunny jacket,” said Msibi.
Despite the claims of a robbery, the man has been arrested for murder and will appear in the magistrate’s court soon.
