Mamabolo visits troublesome substation

Gauteng MEC Jacob Mamabolo rolls up his sleeves at Vanderbijlpark’s Town Substation.

VANDERBIJLPARK – MEC for Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Jacob Mamabolo, visited Town Substation as part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s (GPG) ongoing efforts to help municipalities with service delivery challenges.

Accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Sipho Radebe and a team of senior officials, the MEC assessed critical upgrades at the Town Substation.

The visit focused on new transformer installations and strategies to ensure more reliable electricity for residents.

The substation made news when it burnt down last month, plunging parts of town into darkness and crippling business for almost a month.

“This visit is about action, not just words. We are committed to fixing our energy challenges and delivering stable power to the people of Bophelong, Bonanne, CW Areas, NW 7, and surrounding agricultural holdings,” the MEC said.

The inspection focused on increasing capacity, reducing outages, and accelerating infrastructure improvements. The GPG, together with ELM and Eskom, is working tirelessly to build a reliable electricity network.
