Armed robbers storm Evaton EMS
Two armed suspects stormed the Evaton EMS Station, assaulting a paramedic and stealing emergency equipment before fleeing the scene.
A brazen robbery by two-armed suspects at the Evaton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Station in the early hours of May 22 has been strongly condemned by the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH).
The department spoke out against the ongoing targeting of healthcare workers by criminals who rob them of their belongings while they are serving local communities.
During the break-in, the suspects stole a jump bag, a drug bag, a communication radio belonging to the station manager, an employee’s personal cellphone, and an ambulance key.
A male crew member suffered a head wound after being assaulted with a firearm, while a female crew member was threatened at gunpoint. The female worker managed to escape and set off the ambulance’s siren, which scared the suspects and caused them to flee the scene.
The department has registered an injury on duty for the hurt staff member, and trauma counselling services have been arranged for the affected employees. A robbery case has also been opened at the local police station.
The GDoH appeals to communities to report any information that might assist the police in their investigation.
