SEBOKENG – Senior ANC leaders visited the home of the late Ward 41 Councillor, Tumi Mochawe, on Sunday to pay their respects.
Mochawe passed away in a local hospital on Friday morning after a short illness, leaving the Vaal region in mourning.
As news of his death spread on social media, tributes poured in from political leaders, colleagues, and residents.
Gauteng Premier and ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team Convener, Panyaza Lesufi, led the ANC delegation. He was accompanied by regional leaders Mlungisi Hlongwane, Sibongile Soxuza, Hassan Mako, Jason Mkhwane, and ANC Women’s League representative Disebo Tlebere.
The leaders travelled to Zone 3, where many ANC supporters and community members had gathered to honour the former Emfuleni Local Municipality MMC. The streets of Sebokeng were filled with the ANC’s black, green, and gold colours as mourners arrived to say goodbye.
Family spokesperson George Ncebesha described Mochawe as a devoted family man, a committed community leader, and a loyal ANC member.
“The family extends its heartfelt condolences to the ANC, whose members have also lost a dedicated comrade. The family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support received during this difficult time and extends its heartfelt condolences to relatives, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by his life,” said Ncebesha.
He added that daily condolence and prayer services will be held at the family home every day at 17:00.
ANC Emfuleni Caucus spokesperson Njana Phala said Mochawe’s death has robbed the community of a humble and dedicated public servant.
“The caucus pays tribute to this extraordinary freedom fighter whose sacrifices and commitment to the liberation of the people remain a source of inspiration to many young cadres,” said Phala.
“We wish the Mochawe family strength during this difficult time and hope they find solace in knowing that their pain is shared by many.”
Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be announced in due course.
