Microwave bust lands trio in hot water

A stolen microwave led police straight to three suspects, but the appliance may be just the tip of the iceberg.

SASOLBURG – A stolen microwave has landed three men behind bars after the owner led cops straight to the house where it was being kept.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 36, are expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on July 28, on charges of house burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani, the drama unfolded on Saturday night at around 22:00 when a frustrated homeowner reported a house burglary case at the Zamdela Police Station.

The victim told officers he knew exactly where some of his stolen belongings had been hidden.

Members of the Sasolburg Public Order Policing (POP) Platoon wasted no time and rushed to the address.

“When they searched the house, they recovered the complainant’s microwave,” she said.

Rani added that the trio found with the appliance could not give a satisfactory explanation for having it, leading to their immediate arrest.

“Although the microwave was recovered, the victim is still missing other stolen household items worth about R45 800,” she said.

Rani said police are continuing their investigation and hope to recover the remaining property.
