Maphalla remembered as a good and disciplined cadre

“This visit was a gesture of remembrance, solidarity and revolutionary respect to the Maphalla family."

SEDIBENG. – The African National Congress (ANC) in Sedibeng expressed profound sorrow at the passing of one of its veteran cadres and esteemed community leaders, Taudi Simon Maphalla, affectionately known as “Cde Sy”.

Maphalla died in the afternoon of Tuesday, May 19 and was buried over the weekend.

The party’s Regional Secretary, Jason Mkhwane, said that Maphalla devoted his life to the struggle for the liberation, empowerment, and development of the people of the Vaal and that he cultivated his political consciousness through active involvement in various civic formations, including the Vaal Civic Association (VCA), now known as SANCO, where he advanced through the ranks and ultimately served on the National Executive Committee.

ANC Gauteng Provincial Deputy Coordinator Cde Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko and ANC Gauteng PTT member Jacob Khawe attended Maphalla’s memorial service at the Vereeniging Civic Hall last Wednesday.

ANC Gauteng said that Maphalla who was affectionately known as “Sy” was a principled, disciplined, and exemplary leader who executed every organisational and governmental responsibility entrusted to him with diligence, humility, and distinction.

“His invaluable contribution to the Mass Democratic Movement and the broader pursuit of social justice will remain an enduring part of the proud history of our movement in the Vaal. The ANC extends its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Maphalla family, particularly his wife, Cde Elsa, as well as his friends, comrades, and the broader ANC family in Sedibeng and beyond.”

Meanwhile, last Tuesday, the first Deputy President of The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO), Chris Malemetja, the SANCO Regional Executive Committee (REC) members and the L.J Malia Zone, paid homage at the home of the late former SANCO National Executive Committee Member and Veteran, Maphalla.

“This visit was a gesture of remembrance, solidarity and revolutionary respect to the Maphalla family, as we continue to honour the life, contribution and legacy of a servant of the people. Comrade Simon “Sy” Maphalla’s name remains written in the history of SANCO and in the hearts of the communities he served with commitment and humility. May his legacy continue to inspire generations of community activists,” SANCO said.
