Protection of elderly a police priority
The police engaged with elderly citizens in the Meyerton CBD.

MEYERTON. – Older persons should be able to live free from fear or harm and have their rights and choices respected.
Older persons are persons who, in a case of males, are 65 years or older, or in the case of females, 60 years and older.
In an effort to ensure the safety of senior citizens, the Meyerton police in conjunction with Meyerton Community Policing Forums (CPFs), took it upon themselves to visit various elderly persons at pay points at Meyerton central business district.
According to Tlaleng Moloi, a spokesperson for the Meyerton police, the main purpose of the visit was to mingle with Meyerton’s senior citizens and at the same time ensure safety and that they receive their SASSA payments without any disturbance.
During the engagement, abuse of older persons, which includes physical, sexual, psychological, economic abuse, and neglect, was also addressed. Older persons were also encouraged to report any form of abuse and break the silence.
