Sedibeng hosts Sports Against Substance Abuse Games

Various sporting codes participated in this event, including boxing, aerobics, table tennis, soccer, and netball.

SEBOKENG.- The Sedibeng Netball Federation hosted its 4th Sports Against Substance Abuse games at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 12 on Saturday.

In an interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport, Sedibeng Netball Federation President Fakazile Nketsing stated that the games were also part of the Freedom Day commemoration, marking 30 years of democracy in the country.

Various sporting codes participated in this event, including boxing, aerobics, table tennis, soccer, and netball. Nketsing highlighted that the primary aim of the games was to address the issue of drugs in the community and raise funds for Sedibeng Netball Regional Teams to participate in the National Championship.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to all sponsors who contributed to making this event a success, as well as our coaches who are diligently working to keep our youth away from drugs. We also want to acknowledge the players because, without them, there would be no game. They are vital members of our community and the future of our country. It’s crucial to provide them with the necessary support,” said Nketsing.

Nketsing urged local companies and businesses to step forward and support teams from the poorest communities, especially netball teams that are struggling due to the lack of sponsors or financial assistance. She mentioned that Sedibeng Netball Regional Teams face challenges every year when representing the region at the annual national championships held in Cape Town.

This highlights the urgent need for support and resources for these teams, emphasising the importance of community involvement and sponsorship in nurturing sporting talent and ensuring the safety of players and officials.
