Campaigning for safer elections
South Africa’s seventh general elections will take place on 29 May. The police are ready to curb violence related crimes and maintain public order.
MEYERTON. – In an effort to curb violence related crimes and maintain public order during the upcoming election, the police in Meyerton and stakeholders embarked on a #SaferElection awareness campaign on Friday 10 May at the Meyerton Taxi Rank.
Present during the event were members of the Meyerton police, personnel of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), the Community Policing Forum (CPF) patrollers, the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) unit, members of the Gauteng Traffic Department, Crime Prevention and Traffic Wardens, the Midvaal Traffic Department, members of Midvaal’s Social Services Department, the Meyerton Taxi Association, the GBVF brigades from the Department of Community Safety, representatives of the Thuthuzela Care Centre, LifeLine Vaal, Deaf SA, ward councillors and community leaders.

According to Const Tlaleng Moloi, a spokesperson for the police in Meyerton, the #SaferElections awareness campaign initiative is aimed at eliminating the risks of violence during the election within Meyerton policing area.
During the awareness campaing, the IEC educated and shared the information with the members of the community about the upcoming national elections and gave them channels to follow when they are unsatisfied with anything during the elections instead of using violence.
