Sebokeng SAPS and Correctional Services Imbizo

The police urged the community members to participate in various community policing structures.

SEBOKENG.- The community members of Zone 14 Sebokeng was recently invited to an imbizo at the Community Hall by Correctional Service and Sebokeng SAPS.

The purpose of the event was to educate the community members about the services that the SAPS renders as well as those of the Correctional Service.

The Station Commander of Sebokeng SAPS Brigadier Thembekile Kubone, shared a story about how she grew up and how she was raised by the community. She told the community members that she wishes to adopt every child in Sebokeng area as she is hurt at how some mothers do not take care of their children and she has a soft spot for children.

Brigadier Kubone also educated the community members about about child abuse, child neglect and Gender based violence. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that in addition, the community members were advised to start taking responsibility for their actions.

“Mrs Tlhoka from the Department of Correctional Service explained how their organisation operates and how the rehabilitation process works, as well as their different departments,” Mokhachane said.

During the motivation session parolees gave their testimonies about how they survived as inmates.

“They also touched based on GBV as well as the dangers of being an abuser. One of the parolees told the community members that he was arrested when he was 30 years old and only released when he was 57 years old. Another testimony was from a parolee who he stated that he kept himself busy by attending classes where he was taught how to manufacture bricks, knit wool beanies as well as jerseys.”

The Imbizo was attended by +/- 120 Community members, Home Affairs, Emfuleni Community Safety, CPF, CPW, Toughest Young Minds and AVBOB.

The police urged the community members to participate in various community policing structures.
