VEREENIGING.- It’s official: Young Pirates FC will represent Sedibeng in the ABC Motsepe League Play-Offs after a legal battle against SAFA Sedibeng.

The arbitration recently ruled in their favour, declaring them the Stream A champions. It was determined that the game between Perfect Academy and SUBS should not have been replayed. Initially, Perfect Academy defeated SUBS 6-0 at NWU Vaal grounds. However, arbitration overturned those results to reflect the original 1-1 draw.

Sedibeng Ster Sport has obtained the arbitration’s outcome, which was sent to all involved parties. This ruling placed Pirates at the top of the Stream A log standings, with VUT FC crowned the champions in Stream B. The two teams faced off in the SAFA Sedibeng Regional Play-Offs at President Park Stadium in Vereeniging on Sunday to determine which team would represent Sedibeng in the Promotional Play-Offs for the ABC Motsepe League. Pirates FC defeated VUT FC 2-0 to become the SAFA Sedibeng overall winners for the 2023/2024 soccer season.

As a result, Pirates FC will represent Sedibeng in the Promotional Play-Offs for a spot in the ABC Motsepe League in the new season.

If Pirates FC secures promotion, Sedibeng will have a representative in the ABC Motsepe League. Currently, Sedibeng has no teams in either the ABC Motsepe League or the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
In the past, the region had several teams competing in the ABC Motsepe League, such as NWU Vaal FC, Vaal Professional FC, and VUT FC.

Ironically, all of these teams were relegated to lower divisions, with Vaal Pros’ owner, Advocate Mosotho Petlane selling the club’s status out of the Sedibeng region. In a previous interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport, Pirates FC Chairman, Musa Wambi stated that his challenge was not against Perfect Academy but against SAFA Sedibeng for contravening the rules. He asserted that Pirates FC had a strong case after the league ordered the match between Perfect Academy and SUBS to be replayed.
