Evaton Warriors conquers
Rain spoiled the much-anticipated final as the game only lasted four minutes.
EVATON.- Evaton Warriors were crowned the University of Pretoria’s Basketball Tournament Champions.

The team achieved this feat after they beat Equestrian 7-2 in the final that took place at Tuks over the weekend. The rain spoiled the much-anticipated final as the game only lasted four minutes. Evaton Warriors was leading Equestrian 7-2 when the game was suspended due to lightning. Due to the persistent rain, the tournament organisers declared Evaton Warriors as the winners. It was hugs and kisses when the organiser’s announcement was made, however, players and officials thought the tournament would be postponed to this coming weekend.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Jappie Hlalele said the team came, saw and conquered. According to Hlalele it was not easy because the team had to raise funds for six of the players to make it to the tournament.

“I’m proud of our boys because despite all the odds stuck against us, they managed to be crowned the champions. This was the toughest competition, but they did exceptional well to win it. We came here fully prepared and this is our reward.”
