SEBOKENG – Police clamped down on crime through a safer festive season operation roadblock, yielding positive results. The operation was carried out along the Golden Highway on October 26.
The operation was initiated with the Department of Community Safety, Sedibeng Community Safety, Sebokeng Patrollers, Department of Home Affairs Immigration, Gauteng Traffic Police, and Gauteng Traffic Wardens.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane reports: “Police managed to search over 900 people, while 280 motorists were stopped and their vehicles searched at the roadblock.”
Mokhachane adds that police issued 30 traffic fines to motorists on the day.
“A vehicle checkpoint was activated, where over 30 vehicles were tested. During the operation, shopping centres, spaza shops, filling stations, and shebeens were visited.”
Mokhachane states that such operations promote police visibility and safety in the community. Reporting on arrests, Mokhachane said 24 suspects were arrested for being undocumented, selling liquor without a license, drunk driving, and possession of illicit cigarettes and drugs.
During a search operation in the area, an illegal gambling machine was discovered and seized by police.
Acting Station Commander Colonel Stofina Mofokeng thanked all stakeholders for being part of the operation. “No stone was left unturned in Sebokeng. It is through information from the community that illicit cigarettes and drugs were discovered.”
Police urge community members to participate in various community patrol structures and to report any criminal activity in their areas.
