Authority stamped through Operation Shanela
Parallel operations were carried out throughout the precinct wherein police were deployed to various areas to ensure that law and order were maintained
SEBOKENG – In continued efforts to combat crime in various areas, a multidisciplinary,
integrated Operation Shanela took place on November 7.
The operation was carried out by the Sedibeng District Police working together
with various stakeholders including the Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens, the Emfuleni Traffic Department, the Department of Community Safety, the Department of Home Affairs, and more.
The operation started with a roadblock along Moshoeshoe Road where scores of motorists were checked for road compliance. Their cars were also checked and searched.
During the operation, police managed to arrest undocumented foreign nationals as well as citizens who employed undocumented persons.
Officers of the law also issued fines to those who did not have driving licenses and cars without discs.
The roadblock was led by the Sedibeng District Deputy Commissioner Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu, flanked by the Sebokeng acting station commander Colonel Stofina Mofokeng as well as Chief Immigration Officer Bona Sera.
Speaking on some of the arrests made on the day, Mofokeng highlighted that police would not only arrest undocumented foreign nationals but would also take their employers into custody as they were also in violation of the law by employing undocumented foreigners.
Sera said that undocumented foreigners violated the law. Sera stated that those who are documented still had to follow the rules that govern the country. He urged them not to do as they please.
Mofokeng appreciated the team for heeding the call to ensure that the criminals are brought to justice and order is maintained in the Sebokeng area.
“This outlines the values and principles that all SAPS members are expected to uphold, including integrity and professionalism.”
In reporting the results of the operation, police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said: “Over 880 people were searched, 38 traffic fines issued, and over 130 vehicles were searched.”
Mokhachane said a vehicle checkpoint was also activated, where over 100 vehicles were tested. Parallel operations were carried out throughout the precinct wherein police were deployed to various areas to ensure that law and order were maintained
