9 arrested, 1 dead following violent shootout with cops
Syndicate operating on the N1 freeway and R28 Randfontein Road arrested.
The Free state Province Highway Patrol members shot dead a suspect during an exchange of fire on November 21.
This while the members were out investigating and were allegedly accosted by criminals with intent to hijack or ambush the, not knowing that they are police officers.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Shaan Motsapi said a backup swiftly responded, as a result nine suspects were arrested.
Motsapi revealed that the members recovered a police reflector jacket, a pellet gun, four firearms and ammunition.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of attempted murder, attempted car hijacking, possession of firearms and ammunition.
Station commander Brigadier Mashole Manamela applauds the good work done by members of the Fezile Dabi and Sedibeng Districts. Manamela further congratulated the members on not having any casualties during the shootout.
