SHARPEVILLE. – A man was recently sentenced to four years of direct imprisonment for attempting to poison his two-year-old son.
It is said that on the night of the incident, the complainant went to bed with her boyfriend and their two-year-old son. During the evening, she raised the topic of moving out of her boyfriend’s parents’ house to find a place of their own. The conversation took a dark turn as her boyfriend became enraged, removed the child from the bed, and stormed outside.
Moments later, he returned with a chilling demand, declaring that he would rather die with his son than leave his parents’ home.
Police spokesperson, Constable Busisiwe Sango said that the suspect then forced rat poison into the child’s mouth, locked the mother inside the shack, and fled with the child. The child received timely medical attention and survived the horrifying ordeal.
“The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Morapedi Mutlaneng of the Sharpeville SAPS. Through meticulous investigation, he ensured the suspect was apprehended and brought to court. The accused was ultimately found guilty of attempted murder in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court.”
