Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela yields great results in Sedibeng

As part of the operation, law enforcement officers searched over four hundred and sixty individuals and over a hundred and twenty-five vehicles.

SEDIBENG. – Police officers from the Sedibeng District conducted Safer festive season Operation Shanela in the Sedibeng District on Tuesday.

The operation was coordinated and led by Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho, District Commissioner of Sedibeng. It was executed in collaboration with the following various stakeholders:

– Department of Home Affairs Immigration

– Gauteng Community Safety

– GTW

– Patrollers

– Gauteng Traffic

– CPF

– Emfuleni Traffic

– Peace Officers

– Lesedi Traffic

– Midvaal Traffic

The operation resulted in the apprehension of eighty-six suspects for a range of offenses.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane said that the objectives of the operation included safer streets, tracing wanted suspects, conducting visible patrols with additional police deployment, compliance with the immigration laws, compliance with the fireworks regulations, and enforcing compliance with liquor licensing regulations.

“Suspects were arrested for serious offenses, which included, armed robbery, common robbery, common assault, assault gbh, shoplifting, theft, possession of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, selling liquor without a license, drunk and driving, pointing with a firearm, explosives act, illegal immigrants, possession of ammunition, and selling liquor without a license.”

Undocumented individuals were detained and are pending legal proceedings. Should they be found in violation of immigration laws, deportation procedures will be initiated. As part of the operation, law enforcement officers searched over four hundred and sixty individuals and over a hundred and twenty-five vehicles, with other vehicles undergoing verification to determine if they were reported stolen.

Identified premises were searched, ATMs, taxi ranks, malls, filling stations, shops, and liquor outlets were also visited. Liquor was confiscated because of non-compliance with the liquor licensing regulations.

Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Mukwevho expressed her sincere gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the operation and reiterated the SAPS’s commitment in ensuring community safety.
