Gang violence condemned in Sharpeville

The initiative aims to rid schools in the area of bullying and gang violence.

SHARPEVILLE – Following an alarming rate of initiation gang related violence, the police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens (GTW), and initiation school leaders embarked on a tour in and around Sharpeville where they aimed to restore order.

The initiative aims to rid schools in the area of bullying and gang violence. Recently, Thuto-Lore Comprehensive School pupils were engaged and warned against using the school as a playground where lawlessness will be the order of the day.

GTW Thembinkosi Mahlangu addressing the male pupils at the school urged them to adhere to the rules of the school and to stay away from crime. “Anyone caught committing a crime on school grounds will be arrested. We are not going to have a generation of men that run amok and have no discipline. We expect you to follow the school rules, arrive early, and listen to your teachers.”

Mahlangu urged the pupils to report any form of bullying they may experience as this is not allowed.

Initiator Dumisane Mzoboshe said the kids from initiation schools ought to be ashamed of their actions as they should be setting a good example for other kids. He said that they should maintain high discipline and morale.

“I don’t understand why you have suddenly formed rivalry gangs after coming back from initiation schools. We are united as people working in this field yet here you are fighting. If we hear that people are being bullied on the school premises or inside the bathrooms, we will deal with those people. “

Principal Thabo Lehobo urged pupils to listen to their teachers, follow the rules, and always strive to be the best they can as they are the men of tomorrow.
