‘Ntala Dipichi’ grabs second chance with both hands
“I decided to change my ways because when I was in prison my mom suffered a lot."
ORANGE FARM.- Being an ex-gang member and having survived mob justice, among other things, Jabulani ‘Ntala Dipichi’ Silanda – also known as ‘Mathebula’ – is an ex-convict who appreciates a second chance to re-enter society.
Silanda is now an artist, a choreographer, event organiser, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker at schools and awareness events. The 18-year-old from Orange Farm Ext 10 was arrested and sentenced to six years imprisonment for armed robbery with aggressive circumstances.

Silinda told Sedibeng Ster that prison changed him.
“I decided to change my ways because when I was in prison my mom suffered a lot. In jail, I had conversations with myself and did introspection.”

He adds that he does not wish what he saw in prison to happen even to his worst enemy.
“Jail can turn a person into a monster or a killer if he or she is weak, due to obstacles you come across (inside). I thank God, I made it out alive. My message to youth is to listen to their parents because they know what is best. Also, choose friends wisely.”
Silinda has been featured on local radio stations and newspapers where he ‘preaches’ peace, particularly to the younger generation he describes as angry.
“In today’s environment we should be wise, because many people don’t want us to prosper due to the ‘beefs’ they had with our parents. Life is too short and you are responsible for your journey.
