LGBTQI+ awareness in Sebokeng

“There is nothing wrong with being a gay or lesbian."

SEBOKENG.- The Omphile Cognitive Development Centre recently held an awareness campaign at the Zone 11 park concerning the LGBTQI+ community.

During the campaign, awareness was raised regarding the stigma and discrimination towards the LGBTQI+ community.

The LGBTQI+ members informed the community that they need to be treated with respect as they are also human. Different stakeholders such as Badumetse Batho and Tshemoloho also educated the community.

“There is nothing wrong with being a gay or lesbian so we need to love them and protect them against all odds,” said Hadiyo Motloung, Omphile Cognitive Development Centre’s programme manager.

The overall message by the LGBTQI+ community is that the community must accept them the way they are and create a safe space for them to express themselves freely without fear of being victimised and that, like anybody else, their human rights must also be respected as enshrined in the Constitution.
