Heritage festival at Sebokeng Hostel

The Sebokeng Hostel Heritage and Human Rights event was a resounding success.

SEBOKENG.– The basis of who you are, is where you come from!

This was evident when the Gauteng Film Commission, the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM’s) Arts and Culture Department, and the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (CONTRALESA) held a successful Human Rights event at the Sebokeng Hostel on Saturday.

The event preceded, and was part of the Human Rights Day Celebrations that are held each year in Sedibeng.

The Sebokeng Hostel Heritage and Human Rights event was a resounding success, with an impressive turnout of over 250 attendees. The event, aimed at celebrating cultural heritage and promoting human rights awareness, was funded by the Gauteng Film Commission and supported by ELM, CONTRALESA, and the hostel Indunas, led by Ntate Mashilo.

The day was filled with vibrant performances from seven cultural groups, all residents of the hostel, who captivated the audience with traditional music, dance, and storytelling.

Their participation showcased the rich cultural diversity and talent within the Sebokeng hostel community.

A key highlight of the event was the screening of a thought-provoking documentary on Human Rights by local filmmaker, Thabang Molibeli.
The film sparked meaningful discussions on human rights issues within the hostel environment, fostering dialogue on community challenges and empowerment.
