Vaal’s young defender joins Wits FC on loan from Chiefs development

"My dream is to play for the Chiefs senior team in the future but now I’m just working to be a better player.”

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Ofentse Thabane (19) is another youngster from Vaal who is on a mission to make a name for himself in top-flight football.

Tabane is on loan to Wits FC after being promoted to Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) team. The good thing is that, apart from the loan, he is also studying Sports Management there. He is one of the local boys who joined Kaizer Chiefs development at the age of 14 and went through the structures until he was promoted to the DDC team.

He has already cemented his place in the Wits FC’s team.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Tabane said he has already played four official games for Wits FC. The club campaigns in the Hollywood League, formerly the SAB League. David Mathebula who coached him in the U19 team at Chiefs regarded Tabane as one of the defenders with a great future. He was the one who recommended him to be promoted to the DDC team after he finished his matric.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Tabane said he wants to play in PSL, and playing for Wits FC will help him gain the necessary experience. He said he is grateful to be part of the club and he wants to help the club gain promotion to ABC Motsepe League at the end of the season.

“I want to thank Coach Vela and Coach David for the player that I am today and I will use what I have learned at Chiefs to help Wits FC gain promotion. I enjoy my stay here because the setup here is the same as the Chiefs especially how we train. I’m looking forward to being a better player. My dream is to play for the Chiefs senior team in the future but now I’m just working to be a better player,” said Tabane.
