UDWOSA Sedibeng supports Secunda dog bite victim
Mngomezulu’s family is said to have been notified days later about her death.
SEDIBENG.- In the spirit of Human Rights Day, members of the United Domestic Workers of South Africa (UDWOSA) from the Sedibeng region made their presence felt in Secunda, Mpumalanga on Friday.
This region’s members joined their counterparts from different areas of the country in handing a memorandum to the Secunda Police demanding the reopening of a case against an employer whose dogs allegedly bit an employee, Tryphina Mngomezulu, in March last year.
The domestic worker allegedly died due to her injuries.
Founded by Pinky Mashiane, the organisation aims to support and advocate for domestic workers.

On Friday, Mashiane and her entourage handed the memorandum to the police. The memorandum said that the family of Mngomezulu, who worked as a domestic worker for 45 years hasn’t found closure and justice, because of discrepancies and contradictions that are said to have been made by the police handling the case.
Mngomezulu’s family is said to have been notified days later about her death, and in some instances, she was allegedly blamed for having incited the dogs.
Speaking to the police, Mashiane said that they demand that the family of the deceased be shown the original and unedited video footage of the whole day of the incident since they were not granted an opportunity to see their loved one before she was taken to the mortuary.
She also demanded that the case be given speedy attention so the family could get closure. The police received the memorandum and promised to get back to UDWOSA.
