DSTV Diski Challenge back in Vaal this weekend

The Soweto mini derby was initially scheduled to take place in the Vaal but was moved to Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein as part of DDC festival games on Sunday.

SEDIBENG.- The DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) will be back in the Vaal when Orlando Pirates babies host their counterparts from Amazulu FC.

This much-anticipated fixture is scheduled to take place at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.

Kickoff time is at 12:00.

As if this is not enough, Sekhukhune United will be playing at the same venue when they welcome Stellenbosch on Sunday. Pirates come into this Saturday’s encounter after a 1-0 defeat against their rivals, Kaizer Chiefs. This Soweto mini derby was initially scheduled to take place in the Vaal but was moved to Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein as part of DDC festival games on Sunday. Local soccer fans were disappointed because they thought the Pirates and Chiefs mini derby would take place in the Vaal.

Back to the Pirates and Amazulu’s game, the Buccaneers’ babies suffered their first defeat after their seven-match winning streak. They are now in fourth position on the log, with 43 points from 23 games. On the other hand, Uzuthu is languishing in tenth place on the log with 26 points from 21 games. Despite their defeat to the Chiefs, the Pirates come into this game as the favourites to beat Amazulu.

But having said this, Uzuthu is not going to be a pushover after beating Golden Arrows 2-1 in the KZN derby over the weekend. The Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch game also promises to be an exciting affair. United must brace themselves for a tough encounter against Stellies who humiliated Chippa United 9-1. The same cannot be said about United who suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hand of Marumo Gallants over the weekend.
