A national protest and march to the Union Buildings is reportedly planned for Friday.

UPDATE 2025/04/02 – 15:15

The Gauteng Joint Operations Centre (JOC) says that while it is aware of messages circulating about possible protests at the Union Buildings on Friday, April 4, nothing can be confirmed at this stage.

According to the JOC, there is currently no reason to panic.

“Some notices have also mentioned high-risk activities such as a ‘national shutdown’ or ‘Occupy Union Buildings’. We appreciate the concern and would like to inform everyone that, although these events have not yet been confirmed, the JOC will continue to monitor the situation together with law enforcement agencies. We will keep the community informed of any situations that may pose a safety risk,” the JOC said on its official WhatsApp broadcast channel.

The JOC called on the public to rely on reliable sources for information and only share verified news in order to avoid unnecessary fear and panic.

The JOC stressed that while posts may appear on various groups and channels, the JOC’s WhatsApp channel is the only official warning channel they use.
