VESA dominates GDL Stream B local derby

NWU Vaal FC was relegated to Stream B last season after having a difficult season to cope with the demanding schedule and travelling in Stream A.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Vaal Elite Sports Academy (VESA) dominated the Gauteng Development League derby against NWU Vaal FC.

These two local teams competed in the Stream B fixture at the NWU Vaal grounds on Saturday.

The clash saw age groups U13, U15, U17, and U19 participate.

VESA won all the divisions but played 1-1 in the U13. They beat NWU Vaal 2-1 in the U15 and U17 fixtures and completed their winning streak 1-0 in the last game of the day with the U19s. Both teams are fighting for promotion to Stream A to compete against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and SuperSport United in this stream.

NWU Vaal FC was relegated to Stream B last season after having a difficult season to cope with the demanding schedule and travelling in Stream A. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the games, NWU Vaal FC Head of Development Tebello Kheswa said the results are not what they were expecting. He also told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they aim to return to Stream A at the end of the season.

Despite this defeat, Kheswa was still optimistic that they would turn the tables around in their next games. He believes that they belong to Stream A and will do everything in their power to gain promotion back to this stream come the end of the season.

“These are not the results we wanted because we want to go to Stream A at the end of the season. But I do not doubt that we will regroup in our next games. We started the teams from scratch because some players were no longer qualified to play under certain divisions. But it is a work in progress, and it is just a matter of time before we start winning,” said Kheswa.

Meanwhile, NWU Vaal FC will be away to Sky City FC on May 10.
