Sharpeville SAPS’s elderly care campaign

Most of the elderly people are living alone or with their grandchildren, and the panic buttons are issued for safety.

SHARPEVILLE. – The Sharpeville Police hosted a ‘Care for the aged’ awareness campaign at Rhoda Yende Hall in Sharpeville last week.

The awareness campaign was hosted in conjunction with different stakeholders including Vereeniging FCS, Masp, Vaal action, FAMSA, Kitso, Bornsevant, Community Safety, Social Development Department, Department of Justice, GBVF, Youth Desk, and CPF.

“We also issued panic buttons. Most of the elderly people are living alone or with their grandchildren, and the panic buttons are issued for safety in case a need for police assistance arises,” explained police spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango.

The elderly enjoyed the presence of all in attendance and appreciated that in their twilight years, they too are still recognised as important members of society.
