DA slams Emfuleni over ongoing sewage spill near Zone 12 post office

Raw sewage floods Moshoeshoe Street beside the Zone 12 post office.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has condemned the persistent raw sewage spillage on Moshoeshoe Street, beside the Zone 12 post office in Emfuleni. Despite numerous resident complaints, the municipality has failed to fix the problem, putting public health at risk.

Cllr Dady Mollo, DA Shadow MMC for Public Works in Emfuleni, called the situation “unacceptable” and a sign of the municipality’s wider failure to provide basic services.

“Raw sewage endangers the community and reflects poor maintenance and neglect,” said Mollo. “The municipality must urgently stop the overflow, repair the damaged infrastructure, and carry out sanitation and clean-up measures.”

The DA demands immediate action and urges residents and stakeholders to unite in pushing for accountability and lasting solutions.

“Our communities deserve clean, safe environments—not neglect and decay,” Mollo added. “We remain committed to holding Emfuleni accountable and ensuring better service delivery.”

The party’s statement highlights the urgent need for municipal intervention to protect public health and restore dignity to the affected area.
