Mother cries for justice after brutal killing of son
“I want justice, my son cannot be killed like that and then there is no one to account for it."
SEBOKENG.– What should have been a day to honour the youth of 1976 turned into tragedy for a Sebokeng family when Tshiamo Omphile Moeti (16) was found dead in the early hours of June 16.
It is said that on June 15, Moeti had gone out with friends to a local entertainment place (known to Sedibeng Ster), where a youth event was held. He was apparently not allowed entry because of his age. Moeti, is said to have loitered around the place’s parking lot waiting for his friends who were apparently allowed to go in.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Moeti’s mother, Keorapetse Moeti said that her son, while at the parking lot, was accused of being involved in a car break-in.
“I am told that the security guys chased him down and beat him with weapons, including golf sticks. He was left to die in the street.”
Moeti’s body was found the following morning in a street where he stayed.
Police confirmed he had visible bruises, a scar on his forehead, and a swollen face. Emergency medical services staff declared him dead at the scene. Keorapetse said that the scene had been made to look like mob justice had taken place, even though residents said they had heard nothing during the night.
No arrests have been made.
Keorapetse believes that the alleged beatings from the security guards are what killed her beloved son.
“I want justice, my son cannot be killed like that and then there is no one to account for it. We have heard stories of people being beaten and some being killed by security guards from that place. Should we keep quiet while they make profits with our children’s lives?”
Sebokeng Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed the case, and said that they are investigating a case of murder. According to Mokhachane, Moeti’s body was transported to Forensic Pathology Services for further investigation. Mokhachane said that the motive behind the killing is unknown.
She urged anyone with information to contact Sebokeng SAPS at 082 498 9563, 016 466 2047, 08600 10111, or via the MySAPS App. The venue’s management had not responded to enquiries by Sedibeng Ster at the time of going to print and investigations are ongoing.
Moeti was a grade nine learner at Residensia Secondary School.
He was buried on June 28 at JacobsKop.
