SEDIBENG.- This year’s Sedibeng U19 Netball Team failed to live up to expectations in this year’s Telkom Netball Championships held in Cape Town. This tournament started on July 7 to July 11.

Despite this poor performance, the Sedibeng Netball Association president, Fakazile Nkitseng, was quick to point out that this was a young team made up from the district level. She said most of them were participating for the first time at this level. The team finished in 13th position in the tournament out of 20 teams. Nkitseng said this was probably the youngest team with no experience at the tournament compared to other regions.
However, Nkitsekng told Sedibeng Ster Sport that despite finishing in this position, the girls held their own against the highly competitive opponents. She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that each player will grow up with this experience. She said the Telkom Netball Championships are one of the biggest competitions in the calendar of Netball South Africa.
“Look for the majority of these girls, it was the first time they competed at that level, and I do not doubt that the experience they gained there is going to make them strong. This was part of our development process to take a young team to this year’s championship to prepare them for the future. They gave it all, but it was not meant to be. There is always next time because some of them will still qualify to play in next year’s championships,” said Nkitseng.
