Police roll up their sleeves for the ultimate potjiekos cook-off

The competition aimed to raise funds for a charity as well as to provide financial support to families of deceased SAPS members.

VEREENIGING – Gauteng Social and Wellness Club annual Potjiekos Competition carried out at the Vaal Showgrounds on August 8 had men and women in blue show off their culinary skills.

The competition aimed to raise funds for a charity as well as to provide financial support to families of deceased SAPS members.

Speaking to Ster North, police spokesperson sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said the event was more than just a cooking contest.

“The competition offered SAPS employees the chance to come together in a relaxed environment, fostering camaraderie and team spirit beyond the pressures of daily duties.”

Maxambela said all fourteen stations in the district took part in the competition. The teams were judged on the taste, presentation, and aroma of their culinary creations.

The team that garnered the first position was the Vaal Marina police station, with Sebokeng coming out second and Evaton third.

Following the competition, the Vaal Marina Police Station will represent the Sedibeng District in the upcoming Provincial Potjiekos cookout competition.
